Abandoned house fire in Van Buren County, cause unknown

VAN BUREN COUNTY, Mich. - Van Buren County Deputies along with Decatur Hamilton Fire Department responded to a fire at an abandoned house in Decatur Township, Thursday afternoon.

Deputies responded to the fire around 3:25 p.m. on Thursday. They found that the house was empty and had been abandoned for several years.

The structure and the wooded area around were burning heavily and causing a lot of smoke in the area. 

Authorities shut 42nd Street down for several hours while the fire departments worked to get it under control. 

Documents state several small explosions happened during the fire and multiple fire departments were called in for mutual aid.

The cause of the fire is unknown currently and there is an ongoing fire investigation.
