Alleged tailgating leads to five-vehicle crash involving four trucks
La Porte County Sheriff\'s Office LA PORTE COUNTY, Ind. -- A five-vehicle crash involving four semi-trucks left three injured and traffic restricted for several hours Tuesday on US 30.
Around 5 p.m. Tuesday, deputies with the La Porte County Sheriff's Office responded to a five-vehicle crash on US 30 just east of the intersection with S.R. 39.
The deputies determined that the crash happened when two trucks and a passenger vehicle stopped for a traffic control device near the intersection when a third truck was following too closely behind, crashing into the rear of the passenger vehicle.
The passenger vehicle was forced off the roadway. Shortly thereafter, a fourth truck hit the rear of the crashed vehicles.
According to the sheriff's office, three of the drivers sustained injuries of varying degrees due to the crash.
