Amazon Prime to introduce advertisements on Jan. 29

SEATTLE, Wash. -- After announcing earlier this year that advertisements were coming, Amazon Prime sent an email to customers on Tuesday (Dec. 26) to inform them that ads will be coming to the streaming platform starting on Jan. 29.

“We aim to have meaningfully fewer ads than linear TV and other streaming TV providers. No action is required from you, and there is no change to the current price of your Prime membership,” the company wrote. "This will allow us to continue investing in compelling content and keep increasing that investment over a long period of time."

Prime subscribers will have the option of paying $2.99 more each month to go back to ad-free viewing.
