Angels in the Attic's inaugural fashion show empowers women with style and strength

MISHAWAKA, Ind. -- Angels in the Attic is hosting its first ever fashion show Thursday night dedicated to women and children who survived abuse.

The idea came to founder Kristine Kuroski in a dream with the vision of a runway lined with courage.

And Thursday night, “Unbroken: A Runway of Resilience” is ready to debut.

For years, the nonprofit has been a lifeline for women and children escaping domestic violence, providing everything from necessities to financial assistance.

With Thursday's show, all the models walking the runway are survivors of abuse.

"We're losing victims back to their abusers, and the national average of seven times leaving an abuser is unacceptable, so our community is stronger than that. We want to help more than that, and so we're going to really encourage our community," Kuroski said.

The event takes place at the Chicory Event Center with doors opening at 6 p.m.

A silent auction will take place filled with designer clothing, handbags, fragrances, local business gift cards, and even trips and specialty baskets.

Tickets are still available online or at the door.  Tickets are $75, while table sponsorships start at $500. All the donations will go towards Angels in the Attic and their mission.

"We get some really beautiful donations. We agree that those items are best used to raise funding so that we can help with their deposits or getting their car fixed, whatever that financial barrier is that's keeping them from being able to be self-reliable and to be able to move forward instead of having to go back to their abuser," Kuroski said.
