Area hospitals announce first births of the new year

Area hospitals have been announcing their first births of the year 2016.

Of the reports received, it appears the first baby born in the new year was delivered at 12:10 a.m. at Elkhart General. Damaris weighed nearly 7 pounds. Her mother says she will be sharing a room with her 4-year-old sister.

At St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Mishawaka, Yeremiah Boyd was the first baby born in the new year. His mother, Shaque Boyd of Elkhart, gave birth at 12:51 a.m.

At IU Health Goshen's Circle of Caring Birthplace, their first baby of the new year was born at 9:54 a.m. The boy is 8 pounds, 6 ounces and 20.5 inches long.
