Banners honor Mishawaka's veterans and active service members

Mishawaka veterans and active duty service members can be honored in the city through the Military Hometown Heroes Banner Program.

Each banner features the photo of an active duty service member, honorably discharged veteran or a service member who died in the line of duty as well as their branch of service.

The flags will be displayed between Memorial Day and Veterans Day.

Mishawaka Mayor Dave Wood says the banners are a good daily reminder.
"We just always want our citizens to remind them, not just on Veteran's Day, but all days that there was a sacrifice that was made so that we could have the freedoms that we hold dear today," said Mayor Wood.
