Bar owners optimistic about Super Bowl crowd despite weather

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- With snow is headed our way and on one of the biggest weekends of the year for sports fans, Super Bowl Sunday, ABC7 talked to bar owners and football fans to see if this weather will affect their game day plans.

Even with several inches of snow expected, business owners say they aren’t worried and they expect a full house on Sunday.

“We’re planning on high volume, good to go, great times,” said Between the Buns Bartender Aaron Endres.

He is excited for Sunday’s big game. Even with the threat of bad weather, he has faith hundreds of customers will still come out.

“Really I don’t think that’s going to affect the business at all. People still love to come out. They love to watch the game with people and I don’t think a little bit of snow is going to affect that in the slightest bit,” Endres said.

He says some customers complain when the bar closes because of the weather, but this weekend, he says they have nothing to worry about.

“We’re definitely going to stay open, 6 to 8 inches compared to what we’ve gotten so far is really a cake walk.”

Over at Mulligan’s Bar and Grill ABC57 heard the same story.

“We already have a bunch of reservations that are here, people are so excited for the Super Bowl,” said owner Pat Mulligan.

He says even the snow and ice won’t keep his regulars away.

But still some people like Linda Peterson are stocking up for the Super Bowl and planning a quiet night in.

"I’m going to stay home tomorrow probably hunker down, snow blow the driveway, and all that stuff and not worry about groceries tomorrow,” said Peterson.

“I’ve just invited a couple neighbors over, so nobody has to drive, just make it easy and fun too,” Pam Maxwell said.
