Beach Bash fundraiser supports Veterans and First Responders
LA PORTE, Ind. -- A Beach Bash in La Porte County is supporting veterans and first responders.
The community fundraiser drew families, vendors, and volunteers on Saturday.
Markus Kaderosborne, an Army Veteran said the support system offered through the foundation helps fill a gap many veterans face after leaving the service.
"You know, I know a lot of veterans out there kind of struggling and things like that with you know finding employment, or sometimes there's a big homeless problem."
The Beach Bash, benefiting the Helping Hoosiers Heroes Foundation, featured inflatables, karaoke, snow cones, and community raffles throughout the day, with proceeds going toward the foundation's mission of serving veterans, first responders, and their families across Indiana.
"So, when we have opportunities to you know sponsor or host an event like this, knowing that it's going to reach a number of people throughout the community, you know it's very it's very uplifting. It makes us feel very good," said Rodney Dumas, Owner of Hot Rod Snow Cones.
"Whether it be a recovery coach, whether it be Meridian Health Services, whether it be Health Link with all of their services, we can help make those warm referrals and get them the help that they need," said Andrew Killin, the Founder and President of Helping Hoosiers Heroes Foundation.
A rain shower briefly closed the beach and paused festivities for about 40 minutes during the event before activities resumed.
