On behalf of the Benton Harbor Area Schools Board of Education and the District, we have reviewed the serious allegations made against two board members by former football coach Elliott Uzelac and athletic director Tray Crusciel. According to the June 10, 2018 Herald Palladium article, Mr. Uzelac and Mr. Crusciel have alleged that several board policies may have been violated. Based on the severity of the allegations and the potential impact on the school community, the District will immediately investigate all claims made by Mr. Uzelac and Mr. Crusciel.
“The District is committed to complying with its board policies and takes the allegations raised by Mr. Uzelac seriously. The complaints will be investigated as soon as possible. After the District’s investigation is completed, findings will be issued.”
On the District’s web page, you will find the statement “Quality Learning for Every Student Every Day.” While these issues are being investigated, the District will continue to emphasize that school community relationships be geared towards reaching each student’s potential.
The Board also wants to make sure that the community understands that it takes Board business very seriously and will continue to advocate for our students. Consistent with this objective, the Board will review the investigation findings when they are issued and ensure that all school operational deficiencies are corrected.
