BK drive-in back open for business

MISHAWAKA, Ind.-- The popular root beer drive-in, BK Root Beer, opened back up their doors a few weeks early this year for their 62nd season.

“This is my 34th time doing this so I’ve been doing it since 1987 and it’s a habit now,” BK Root Beer Owner Tom Faulkner said.

After a whole month of preparations, they’re thrilled to welcome back hungry customers.

“Deep cleaning. We do that in the off season getting ready to open up. Usually use the whole month of February cleaning up the place and getting ready to go so, we’re ready,” Faulkner said.

Unlike many restaurants in the area that’ve had to make adjustments and changes to operations because of the pandemic, BK Root Beer’s owner Tom Faulkner said they actually got more business than usual.

“I think it was busier because there was a lot of restaurant that had to close and this is what we do every day,” Faulkner said. “This place was made for the virus. Everything was made packaged to go, carry out, so we stayed busy throughout that whole pandemic last year and hopefully it goes into this year the same way.”

Many frequent customers, some, even driving in from out of town were excited to finally get their hands on their favorite menu items!

“We saw it was open today so we came up from north liberty right by Walkerton to have lunch,” customer Debbie Galdas said.

Customer’s say BK’s, never disappoints and the food always brings them back wanting more!

“I’ve had it since I was a little kid so,” Galdas said. “It’s a tradition and good food!”

BK Root Beer is located 1020 Logan Street in Mishawaka. It's open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily.
