Black bear sighted in Michigan City

Indiana Conservation Officers responded to several black bear sightings in the Michigan City area Tuesday evening.

Several residents near the Motts Park area reported a bear going through trash, bird feeders, walking on porches and standing against patio doors.

Michigan City Police, Indiana State Police, the LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office and Conservation officers all responded to the scene.

Officers eventually located the bear and found it eating trash.

It was chased into a wooded area.

Conservation Officers will be meeting with a DNR biologist to discuss concerns and solutions.

The DNR recommends residents keep trash indoors and discourages residents from trying to attract the bears with food.
