BERRIEN COUNTY, Mich. -- The Brandywine boys basketball team won its first state championship in school history today. The Bobcats beat Detroit Old Redford 56-48 to win the division three title.
ABC57’s Allison Hayes was the only local TV reporter in East Lansing and spoke with the players after their incredible win.
The Cats were down 24-23 at halftime but came out hot in the second half and took over the game in the middle of the third quarter.
The comeback was sparked by senior Jaremiah Palmer had a breakaway slam dunk and finish to lead all scorers with 18 points. JT Smith added seven points and led all rebounders with ten boards.
The Bobcats were welcomed home with a police escort and fireworks at the high school. This is just the third state championship in any sport for Brandywine.
