Businesses gear up for Small Business Saturday
If you're trying to avoid the Black Friday rush, don't worry. The deals extend out for Small Business Saturday.
It's part of a nationwide effort to get people to shop small.
New research from the National Federation of Independent Business says more people are aware of the day than ever, planning to support local shops and restaurants. There are lots of giveaways planned and deals like percentages off of gift cards.
To help enhance the shopping experience, Downtown South Bend is hosting 11 live musicians who will play at different shops. It's a collaborative effort to get people to invest in independent entrepreneurs.
"We have a lot of small businesses," said Jill Scicchitano, Business Engagement Director for the city of South Bend. "These owners are working hard to make a go at it. And it's a great way to support them locally. 68 cents from every dollar stays here. So it's a great reason to come out and find some unique things."
One of the shops hoping to see a boost for Small Business Saturday is Therapeutic Indulgence on Jefferson Boulevard. It's a massage and wellness center, with aesthetic services, yoga classes and medical hypnosis.
"Obviously there's always the bigger chains out there and it's good to have something that helps the little man out," said owner Sara Frazier. "Small Business Saturday is one of the best outreach efforts that we do and we get pretty busy."
Lots of deals and open houses are happening throughout the city. You can find more information here.
