Campus safety a concern following gunpoint robbery

With a new roster of college students rolling into South Bend, campus safety is an issue.

Already this week, a Notre Dame student was robbed at gunpoint.  Police say it happened while walking home from a bar.

The University told ABC57 that safety and student welfare are their primary concerns.

"University campuses are places where people can try to take advantage of young people who may not have their guard up quite as much as some people do as they get a little bit older.  So again, that's why we try to emphasize over and over again some of the risk reduction techniques," said Dennis Brown at Notre Dame.

Notre Dame works closely with other schools to promote safety, but sometimes students need a reminder to be cautious.
