SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The Century Center in South Bend on Monday honored the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. through several celebratory community events.
The South Bend Heritage Foundation and the Martin Luther King Jr. Foundation teamed up and made the arrangements for the 34th Annual Mating Luther King Jr. Celebration.
The Celebration included the Community Service Recognition Breakfast, the Memorial March, and recognition of the Youth Program – bringing together thousands of people to honor Dr. King.
The Celebration also featured a Keynote Speaker, special performances and the presentation of the Drum Major for Community Service Award which is given to individuals who have volunteered their time and resources to improving communities in St. Joseph County.
Events scheduled at the Century Center will run until 8 p.m. and more events will take place throughout the week and into the beginning of February.
Additional proceeds and donations received at the Celebration will go towards scholarships for area students.
