Charges amended for suspect in fatal hit-and-run crash on Bendix Drive

ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind.—The St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s Office has amended the charges against 30-year-old Joel Barrozo following the death of 17-month-old Isabelle Jasper.

Jasper was declared deceased at Memorial Hospital on Thursday afternoon.

An autopsy confirmed her cause of death to be a severed spinal column at C1 following the December 16 crash that took the lives of a mother and son and injured two others.

Barrozo is now charged with three counts of Leaving the Scene of an Accident Resulting in Death, a level 5 Felony, and two counts of Leaving the Scene of an Accident with Serious Bodily Injury, a level 6 Felony.

Bail was previously set at $50,000.

Barrozo’s initial hearing is scheduled for January 3 at 9 a.m.
