Christmas in July food challenge kicks off this weekend
It’s Christmas in July for one local organization. The Salvation Army Kroc Center invites you and for family to be part of a local and friendly competition.
This Christmas in July Food Drive Challenge started on Saturday and ends on the 14th. Nine groups will compete against each other to see who can raise the most non-perishable items and monetary donations.
All donations will benefit and help stock the Kroc Center’s food pantry and the goal is to try and stock up the pantry for four months by raising three thousand items and three thousand dollars.
On July 14, which is the last day of the challenge, the winning group will be announced along with the total numbers of the challenge.
According to the Kroc’s website, 1,500 items helps out for one month and 3,000 items helps for two and so on. The challenge groups include members, staff, volunteers, summer camp groups, community members and more.
Sharon Dutkowski , the Director Of Programs And Memberships at the Kroc Center, says their food pantry is empty during the summer, but it’s probably the most needed during this season.
“A lot of people don’t realize that there is such a need for food in the summer time. In the summer time especially because kids are out of school, they’re not eating at school, but there is such a big need for families in the summer to feed their children.”
Here’s the link for those than want to make a donation online. Note that one dollar is equivalent to one item.
