NOW: Church partners locally with Cultivate Food Rescue to donate truckloads of non-perishable food

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- In South Bend today, a representative from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, announced a partnership with local non-profit Cultivate Food Rescue to donate non-perishable food items to the communities of Plymouth, Warsaw, Elkhart, Mishawaka, and South Bend.

The initiative is part of the church's larger effort to distribute 250 trucks of non-perishable food items throughout the country in celebration of the nation's 250th anniversary.

Church representative Jeff Howes explains more:

"Well, I think it's pretty impactful. We know that there's a need, we know that we have needful people in this area, and if we can help a little bit with food and some other goods, we feel like we're doing what the Savior, Jesus Christ, have asked us to do, and that is to help people...

This is the first time that we are working with Cultivate. We plan on doing much more with them. The church is donating 250 trucks... throughout the country to celebrate 250 years of our country, but we as a church donate many trucks of food throughout the year.

...We feel like they have a good reach throughout the area that we serve. The church that I lead in this area is all throughout Plymouth, Warsaw, Elkhart, Mishawaka, South Bend, and we know that Cultivate Food Rescue reaches out in those same areas. We feel like it's good partnership for us."
