City of Mishawaka warns residents of utility scam calls

MISHAWAKA, Ind. -- The City of Mishawaka announced Friday morning Mishawaka Utilities has been notified of fraudulent phone calls claiming customers have past-due balances and must make an immediate over-the-phone payment to avoid shutoff.

City officials say these aren't coming from Mishawaka Utilities.

Mishawaka Utilities will never demand payment over the phone or through gift cards, wire transfers, or third-party apps.

City officials say if you do receive a suspicious call, hang up immediately and don't divulge any personal or financial information.

Customers can verify their account status by calling Mishawaka Utilities Customer Service at (574) 258-1630, logging into their account through the city's website, or in person at Mishawaka Utilities Business Office at 107 N. Main St., during business hours.
