City of South Bend offering free Christmas tree recycling

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The City of South Bend is offering residents free Christmas tree recycling from January 3 to January 31.

Recycling is only offered to residents within city limits.

Christmas trees will be picked up on the same day as trash pickup.

Recycled trees will be made into compost and mulch.

Residents are asked to follow these guidelines for pickup:

  • Trees must be placed at the curb by 6 a.m. on the day of pickup
  • Do not place trees in the street or alley and do not park cars on top of or in front of trees
  • All lights, ornaments, plastic coverings/wraps, and metals must be removed from the tree before being picked up
  • Artificial trees and trees containing metal, wire, or glass will not be picked up

Only one Christmas tree per household will be recycled for free. Additional trees can be recycled and billed for $10 per tree.

Any tree picked up after January 31 will be used as the residents’ free monthly yard waste extra pickup.
