Two men injured in Sunday night shooting, mother and son arrested, investigation ongoing
La Porte County Jail: Cevin J. Crawford, Tina M. Sherrod LA PORTE COUNTY, Ind. -- Two men were shot Sunday night in what authorities describe as a drive-by type shooting at the Woodland Crossing Apartment Complex, leading a son and mother to be arrested.
The La Porte County Sheriff's Office reports deputies responded to the apartment complex following several reports of gunshots in the area.
Deputies were given information indicating the incident was a drive-by shooting involving two vehicles.
Authorities soon located a crashed vehicle near the intersection of CR 400 North and Woodland Avenue.
Deputies say near the vehicle was a 24-year-old man suffering from a an upper-body gunshot wound. He was taken to an area hospital for treatment.
Deputies determined the other nearby man, 28-year-old Cevin J. Crawford, had been operating the vehicle immediately prior to the crash.
While the investigation continued, a 23-year-old man arrived at an area hospital suffering from a gunshot wound.
He was later taken to a regional hospital for advanced treatment of an upper-body injury.
Deputies say Crawford was uncooperative at the crash scene and was taken into custody.
Authorities say Crawford's mother, 51-year-old Tina M. Sherrod, arrived at the scene and refused multiple commands to leave the immediate area of the active investigation.
Deputies say she was subsequently taken into custody.
Crawford was taken to the La Porte County Jail and is charged with Intimidation, a Level 6 Felony, Intimidation, a Class A Misdemeanor, OWI, a Class A Misdemeanor, Resisting Law Enforcement, a Class A Misdemeanor, Disorderly Conduct, a Class B Misdemeanor, Public Intoxication, a Class B Misdemeanor, and OWI, a Class C Misdemeanor.
Crawford remains in jail held without bond.
Sherrod was also taken to the LCJ and arrested for Refusal to Leave an Emergency Incident Area, a Class A Misdemeanor. She has since been released from jail following a cash bond being posted.
Several pieces of evidence were recovered from the investigation scenes, and two vehicles were seized.
The investigation is ongoing.
