Cold conditions into the month of May

NOW: Cold conditions into the month of May

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The end of this week is going to be on the colder side, with lows getting close to the freezing mark. ABC57 Meteorologist Oliver Moster has a look at if this is typical for Michiana.

Across Michiana people may need an umbrella stepping out the door, but the rest of the week you’re going to want to be reaching for the jacket.

Through the weekend, low temperatures across Michiana are going to be in the 30s, getting close to that freezing mark, if not slightly below it.

Even though we’ve been seeing warmer than average temperatures overall in April, we typically do see our last freeze around this time.

In the past 30 years, the average last time for South Bend to drop below 32 degrees is today, April 29.

Last year was a little bit on the earlier side, this year looks like it will be right on time, unless of course we see another drop in temperatures in the month of May.

Not only are these temperatures below average, they’re also just short of those beautiful warm conditions we’ve been seeing through most of the month of April.

Very few days on the 10-day forecast are expected to reach that average high for this time of year, 65 degrees, especially the back half, where Michiana is expecting another plunge in temperatures.

As we head through the rest of the month, however, we are expecting more average conditions, while we could expect some truly hot days, average highs rise from 65 at the start of the month to 75 at the end of May.
