Contractor accused by terminally ill woman of taking money without doing work has been arrested

BERRIEN COUNTY, Mich.—Charles Straub was arrested on February 21 on fraud-related charges, according to the Berrien County Sheriff’s Office.

Straub is facing a charge of false pretense over $1,000 but less than $20,000. He is due in court the first week of March.

ABC57 recently investigated the contractor, who owns and manages Comfort Zone Heating and Air Conditioning, after a terminally ill woman said he took hundreds of dollars from her without doing the work. She said she paid Straub hundreds of dollars to repair her heater, but she said he never did the work.

Other customers in both St. Joseph and Marshall counties said that Straub had taken money from them without completing agreed upon repair work.
