Convicted man flees sentencing, leads police pursuit days later

ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. -- A convicted man fled his sentencing in St. Joseph County on May 14 before leading a police pursuit days later.

The St. Joseph County Police Department reports Cameron Beelaert was being sentenced for Meth and Theft charges when he fled the courtroom and the St. Joseph County Courthouse.

An arrest warrant was subsequently issued for Beelaert.

The Warrants Team initially located Beelaert on May 18 in the 600 block of 10th Street.

When police tried to arrest him, Beelaert got in a vehicle and fled, striking a patrol vehicle during the incident.

A pursuit began but was ended due to public safety concerns.

On Tuesday, May 19, the Warrants Team, along with the Bristol Police Department, Elkhart County Sheriff's Officer, and the United States Marshals Service Task Force, located Beelaert in Bristol and took him into custody without incident.

Beelaert is being held at the Elkhart County Jail awaiting extradition back to St. Joseph County.

Further charges have been sent to the St. Joseph County Prosecutor for Resisting by Flight.
