MARSHALL COUNTY, Ind. -- The Marshall County Coroner's Office has identified the man who was struck by lightning while on a pontoon boat Saturday evening. The man died at the scene.
Marshall County Sheriff's deputies were called to Lake of the Woods at 8:30 p.m. Saturday after 65-year-old Richard Eberhardt was struck by lightning.
Deputies learned Eberhardt and a friend were on a pontoon on Lake of the Woods when a strong storm blew in.
As they tried to get to shore, Eberhardt was struck by lightning.
CPR was initiated immediately and Lutheran EMS along with Bremen Fire Department responded to the scene to assist.
Eberhardt was pronounced dead at the scene.
The other person on the boat was not injured.
An autopsy will be conducted on Monday.
The investigation is ongoing.
