ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. - Crews continue to work on a new housing area despite a recent theft from the Habitat for Humanity for Elkhart County, Inc. organization.
Right now, builders are working on a home in the 2100 block of Hope Court in Elkhart. On Monday, the Elkhart Police Department learned several items were stolen from a trailer on the organization’s property sometime between 4 p.m. on Friday and 8 a.m. on Monday.
According to an employee with Habitat, folding benches, snack foods and tent canopies were taken.
"Arrived at work the other morning and the door Volunteer Services trailer was open, said Jerry Gardedo, the construction site supervisor. “Assume that somebody had just forgotten to close it. But upon closer inspection, discovered that it actually had been broken into. We were missing a few canopies. So not a whole lot was taken, but just the notion that somebody did come out and do damage to Habitat for Humanity."
