Police officer hurt in crash on SR 23 and 30th Street

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – A South Bend police officer is recovering after a crash on SR 23 at 30th Street.

The call came in just after 11:00 p.m. according to Saint Joseph County Dispatch.

Police say Sergeant Jamil Elwaer, a detective, was traveling east on State Road 23 when a man driving west on State Road 23 attempted to turn onto 30th Street.

Sgt. Elwaer was able to crawl out of the passenger side of his police vehicle with some assistance.

Sgt. Elwaer received several injuries, including broken bones. The driver of the Jeep declined any medical treatment at the scene.
