Danica Patrick secures pole for Daytona 500

DAYTONA, Fla. — It was a victory for women in racing on Sunday as former Indy car driver turned full-time NASCAR driver Danica Patrick secured the pole for the Daytona 500.

She becomes the first woman to secure the pole in any Sprint Cup race. Patrick was also the pole-setter for last year's Nationwide Daytona race.

The last time a woman qualified in the top ten was Janet Guthrie in 1977.

Patrick drives the No. 10 GoDaddy Chevrolet for Stewart-Haas Racing.

The Daytona 500 is Sunday, Feb. 24 at 1 p.m.
