Delores Walker fired from DuComb Center

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- St. Joseph County Commissioner Carl Baxmayer has confirmed to ABC57 that the mother of Sharon McBride, Delores Walker, has been fired from her position as Kitchen Director at the DuComb Center.

On Feb. 23, the St. Joseph County Commissioners removed McBride as the Director of the DuComb Center and appointed Julie Lawson as the Interim Director.

"This decision comes on the heel of a comprehensive internal investigation at DuComb Center aimed at ensuring the continued delivery of the highest quality services to our community and the individuals served by the center," the board of commissioners said in a joint statement at the time of McBride's removal.

On March 12, county commissioners voted unanimously to ratify the earlier decision to remove McBride amid an investigation into multiple allegations including training issues, ghost employment, and possible overtime abuse at the county-owned facility for inmates returning home.

McBride allegedly gave Walker $45,000 in overtime pay.

The county's investigation is ongoing, but Sharon McBride remains in her elected position on the South Bend Common Council.
