Driver pronounced dead on scene after crashing into horse

ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. -- The Elkhart County Sheriff's Office reports deputies responded to the area of C.R. 38 just west of C.R. 43 around 3:39 a.m. Monday for a single-vehicle crash.
The report states a 2008 Ford SUV, driven by 63-year-old Ronald Gene Mast of Millersburg, was traveling east on C.R. 38 from C.R. 43.
Authorities say there was a horse in the roadway, which Mast then struck.
Mast was pronounced dead on the scene.
No information has been released on the condition of the horse.
