Some family members stopped home for a few minutes while the parents stayed at the hospital with their daughter. The family allowed ABC57 inside the home to see the damage from at least a dozen bullet holes throughout the house.

ABC57 spoke with a neighbor who wanted to remain anonymous. She shared what she heard and saw in the early morning hours.
"We got woken up by the sound of gunshots around 1 a.m. We came downstairs to look outside and didn’t see anything. The police came about five minutes later and started taping off our house. I came outside and they said, "this is an active crime scene; the house has been shot."
Elkhart Police say the toddler's parents took her to Elkhart General Hospital. She was later airlifted to Riley Hospital's IU Pediatric Trauma Center in critical condition. Investigators went door to door Tuesday talking with neighbors to try and put the pieces together.
The neighbor we spoke with has kids of her own and says she doesn't understand how something like this could happen to "the cutest and sweetest baby."
"It was really scary. Me and my kids were very scared. I'm just praying that she makes it and that she will be okay."
Toys and drawings on the sidewalks add color to the neighborhood and also serve as a clear reminder that kids live in this area, an area some say they're now ready to leave since sleeping peacefully at night is no longer a guarantee you won't be harmed in your own home.
Elkhart Mayor Rod Roberson sent out a statement saying in part:
"I am praying for her recovery, but we know she and her family are facing an incredibly difficult battle. Investigators are working tirelessly to piece together the events that led up to this shooting and to identify those responsible, although our communities help would greatly assist their efforts."
