Man arrested for allegedly threatening Riley High School basketball coach with a pellet gun after scrimmage
ABC 57 SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- A man faces charges after an alleged argument over his grandson's play time.
76-year-old Henry Davis Sr. was taken into custody following a basketball scrimmage at Riley High School on June 17. Court documents say Davis allegedly yelled at head basketball coach Alex Williams over his grandson not getting enough time on the court. Investigators say Williams told Davis that the South Bend Community School Corporation bars family members of athletes from speaking to coaching staff about a game until a day has passed.
Officials say Davis continued to argue, and Williams asked him to leave. That's when court documents say Davis allegedly lifted his shirt to show off a handgun in his waistband. Investigators say the coaching staff eventually persuaded Davis to leave. Williams said he saw Davis move the handgun into his back pocket.
When confronted by officers, investigators say Davis denied owning handguns but did have two handgun-style pellet guns that officers later recovered from his home; one was designed to look like a real gun. He denied carrying a pellet gun to the game.
The case remains under investigation.
