SOUTH HAVEN, Mich. -- South Haven Area Emergency Services (SHAES) was dispatched at 2:08 a.m. Saturday morning following a report of a possible structure fire “across from the South Pier” in the City of South Haven.

Upon arrival, SHAES found seven portable restrooms, located adjacent to the facility, fully engulfed in fire. Fire crews quickly extinguished the fire and conducted cooling operations on the exterior walls of the water treatment facility to prevent further damage.

Due to the extreme heat generated by the fire, the water treatment facility sustained some damage to exterior walls, windows, and a digital sign. The fire did not spread into the facility and did not affect plant operations which continues to provide safe water to customers.

There were no reported injuries.

The fire is believed to be the result of arson and will remain under investigation.
