EDWARDSBURG, Mich. --- People in Edwardsburg saw high waters due to rain showers on Saturday.
Out on Oil City Drive, half a dozen to dozen homes were evacuated because of more than 2 feet of water running out of a nearby culvert.
“I just couldn’t believe it, all that water,” said Ronnie Bass, who lives on Oil City Dr.
Bass said the flooding began around noon on Saturday. Edwardsburg Fire officials said the water started receding later in the afternoon, but what was left behind had them and neighbors in awe.
“It flooded my road, took my camper, took my pontoon, took my pier, it took everything,” Bass said.
The road was left cracked about a mile away from the Oil City Dr. and Davis Lake Street intersection. Things like boats and firewood, usually kept at a pier or close to an owner’s property, drifted quite a few feet away from their owners.
However, high water wasn’t only a problem on Oil City Dr., on nearby Davis Lake St. and Lane Street high water stopped drivers most of the afternoon. Bass said he can’t believe today’s rain showers had such a dramatic affect.
