Shots fired near the White House leaves one dead and another wounded
MGN WASHINGTON D.C., -- Shortly after 6 p.m. The White House North Lawn was cleared by secret service after reports of shots fired near The White House. An individual approached a Seret Service checkpoint in the area of 17th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue NW. The individual then pulled a weapon from his bag and began firing at posted officers. The Secret Service officers returned fire and struck the suspect, who was transported to an area hospital, where he later died. A bystander was also struck by gunfire. None of the Secret Service personnel were injured during the shooting. The president was at the White House during the incident but was not impacted. The incident remains under investigation, and we will update you as new information comes in.
