Elkhart Chapter of Black Expo is hitting the road for its 8th annual HBCU college tour

ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. --A tour of historically Black colleges is helping Elkhart students find their future and it’s all thanks to the Elkhart Chapter of Black Expo.

This past Easter over 30 Elkhart students departed to the east coast to get a glimpse of what is ahead for them in the future.

The colleges they will visit include Norfolk State University, Hampton University, Hampton University, Bowie State University, Coppin State University, Morgan State University and Howard University.

They will also visit the Washington Monuments, the African American Arts and Cultural Museum and visit the Capital building for a conversation with Congressman Rudy Yakym.

To qualify for the trip, students had to have a 2.5 GPA, attend school within the Elkhart County, have a letter of reference from a staff member from their school and write a 500-word essay about why going to college is important for them.

Giving students this chance to visit, according to Robert Taylor, President of the Elkhart Chapter of Black Expo, means everything to him since these students are the future.

The students will return to Elkhart tomorrow.
