ELKHART, Ind. -- The City of Elkhart is offering free sandbags Friday as safety officials continue monitoring river levels throughout the city.

Officials say they are seeing minor flooding in areas along the rivers.

Sandbags are available at the Street Department at 2421 17th St. and the Sherman Street Boat Launch.

Residents who need assistance with sandbags or have concerns about rising water levels, should contact 311 or Non-Emergency Dispatch at 574-293-4642.

City officials encourage residents to stay aware of changing conditions and avoid flooded areas.
