Elkhart teen injured in early morning shooting

ELKHART, Ind. -- An 18-year-old was treated for a gunshot wound early Monday morning according to the Elkhart Police Department.

Police say they’re investigating a shooting that occurred in the 300 block of S. 5th Street.

Officers arrived at the scene around 2:57 a.m. following a reported shooting with injuries. Authorities located a man suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to his hand/finger.

The victim told police he was at a gathering in a nearby parking lot when he heard a gunshot and noticed he'd been injured.

The victim was taken to the hospital for evaluation and treatment.

Evidence was collected from the scene.

Police say no arrests have been made at this time and the investigation is ongoing.
