Employee accused of stealing $10,000 worth of lottery tickets

ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. -- An employee of a convenience store has been charged with theft for allegedly stealing $10,000 worth of lottery tickets, according to court documents.

The owner of the Phillips 66 on Western Avenue contacted South Bend Police on January 6, 2020 to report a theft.

The owner told police since December 15, employee Davinder Singh had been taking lottery tickets without paying for them, reports said.

The owner turned over video of the thefts to police.

When police watched the videos, they saw Singh take lottery tickets and scratch them off. He kept winning tickets and trashed the losing tickets, according to the probable cause affidavit.

The winning tickets were redeemed at a store down the street, reports said.

Singh has been charged with one count of theft.
