MISHAWAKA, Ind. – An event held in Mishawaka on Saturday is shedding light an important in issue: mental health.
Out of the Shadows is a local group that advocates for mental health awareness.
The founder of Out of the Shadows, Kay Green, decided to take action after her daughter, Michelle Green, committed suicide.
“This is an epidemic,” Green said. “You do not ask a person ‘do you know someone who is mentally ill or depressed,’ who says ‘no.’ Everybody knows somebody, yet they’re given the same medicine and stuff that they’ve given years ago.”
The event also provides a platform for people to share their experiences.
If you or anyone you know is having any issues, you are encouraged to contact the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline or text the crisis text line by texting "home" to 741741.
