SOUTH BEND, Ind. --- More major retail stores are requiring all customers to cover their faces while shopping no matter what state they're in.
Beginning Monday, CVS, Walgreen’s, Kohl’s, Lowe’s, Meijer, Sam’s Club, and Walmart will implement mask mandates. This is all in an effort to control the spread of the virus and keep front line workers safe.
Apple, Starbucks, Best Buy, and Costco already have mask requirements in place.
Target, Home Depot, and Aldi also have plans to join the growing list of retailers requiring face coverings in their stores within the next week.
Most stores will have a staff member at their entrances making sure anyone who comes inside is wearing some kind of face covering. There will also be exemptions to the mandates including for small children and those with medical conditions.
The changes come just one week after the National Retail Federation calls for all national retailers to enforce a mandate.
In a statement, the National Retail Federation said in part, “Shopping in a store is a privilege, not a right. If a customer refuses to adhere to store policies, they are putting employees and other customers at undue risk."
Right now, Michigan is under a statewide mask mandate. Indiana is not.
