ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind.-- It has been a year since the police-involved fatal shooting of car break-in suspect Eric Logan. This Father's Day, his family and friends are holding a cookout celebration to commemorate his life.

Logan's brother, Tyree Bonds said before his brother died, his final wish was for them to all get together on Father's Day. But, because of his death last year in South Bend, just a few days before the holiday, they were unable to celebrate together.

On Sunday, June 21 they plan to gather for a BBQ at Martin Luther King, Jr. Recreational Center in South Bend to celebrate Logan's life.

"A year later, we going to celebrate his life. We going to enjoy, people are going to talk about his life, we just wanna celebrate life," Bonds said. "We ain’t going to be sad on this day.”

The family has decided to honor Logan with a community Father's Day event that is open to the public. People are encouraged to come out and play basketball, softball, and soccer with each other.

Bonds said he has been planning this event for a while and hopes that community members join him outside.

“Come out, shake somebody’s hand who you don’t know. Let them play with a different color, cause everybody ain't bad and this is the opportunity to teach your kids," Bonds said.

The peaceful celebration starts at noon and ends at 6 p.m.
