NILES, Mi. - Family and friends honored 27-year-old Brandon Williams Friday in Niles. His funeral comes 2 weeks after someone opened fire on a crowd outside of Kelly’s Pub. Ten others were hurt.
Williams’ service included heartfelt songs, prayers and sermons. Those who attended wore white or lime green in his honor.
Brandon’s cousin Gwendolyn Finney said today was a celebration of life.
“He was just the cutest little thing. Of course, he grew up to be the most handsome man as well and he is his moms baby. He was always around the house. You know, that’s just my memory of him," Finney said. "Always seeing him with a smile, he was never a disgruntled-type man. Just pretty easy going, laid back. Just enjoying life.”
She said she wants to remember him for his artistic talent and his smile.
“His passion with drawing and just being artistic in different ways - that was his way of speaking," Finney said. "That was his voice. And everybody knew that Brandon was pretty reserved in some sense. Quiet but yet free-spirited."
Metro homicide investigators are still searching for the gunman. The family says they are trying to move forward – while the investigation continues.
