Large piece of wood falls from roll-off dumpster, vehicle struck, driver dead
ABC 57 STARKE COUNTY, Ind. -- The Starke County Sheriff's Office reports deputies responded to the area of US 35, north of 700 N., around 8:35 a.m., Monday for a crash involving a passenger vehicle and a commercial vehicle.
The report states a commercial vehicle, driven by a 50-year-old Knox man, was pulling a roll-off dumpster and traveling south on US 35.
At the same time, a 2011 Chevrolet Equinox was traveling north on US 35.
Authorities determined a large piece of wood had fallen from the dumpster before striking the Equinox, causing it to go off the roadway before coming to a stop in a field.
The driver of the Equinox was pronounced dead at the scene due to injuries from the collision.
The deceased driver's name is being withheld from release pending notification of next of kin.
A juvenile passenger in the Equinox suffered minor injuries and was taken to a local hospital.
