WALKERTON, Ind. - A Hammond man is now in jail after a rollover crash that killed his wife. The crash is being investigated by St. Joseph County Fatal Alcohol Crash Team.
Officers responded to Osborne trail in Walkerton to reports of a suspicious person early Saturday morning.
That’s when they found 46-year-old Thomas Grzywinski. When they went to the vehicle, they found his wife, Christie Grzywinski just 250 feet away from the car, dead.
Thomas was taken to Memorial Hospital for treatment then St. Joseph County Jail for suspicion of operating a vehicle while intoxicated and causing death.
ABC57 spoke with Christie's twin sister today, Carrie Rodriguez who says it feels like she lost her other half.
“She was always there for everyone. She had like an open-door policy. If anybody needed somewhere to stay, you can always go to Chrissy. Chrissy would open her door to anybody,” Rodriguez said.
Her friends and family say she was a beautiful person inside and out and remember her for her amazing baking.
As for Thomas, they're shocked for the way things have played out.
“Very surprised. Very surprised at everything that’s aspired right now,” Rodriguez said. “They were hand in hand like that, being that caring for everyone else before caring for themselves”
Carrie said they haven’t set up a memorial or funeral yet because of the investigation.
