Starke County Sheriff\'s Office

STARKE COUNTY, Ind. -- A father and daughter were charged with Aggravated Battery against someone the daughter "grew up together" with in Starke County.

Seth Terry, a 47-year-old man, and his 20-year-old daughter, Emma Terry, were charged in Starke County with Aggravated Battery Posing a Substantial Risk of Death as a Level 3 Felony.

The father and daughter were also charged with Battery Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury as a Level 5 Felony, Battery by Means of a Deadly Weapon as a Level 5 Felony, Battery Resulting in Moderate Bodily Injury as a Level 6 Felony, and Battery Resulting in Bodily Injury as a Misdemeanor.

According to the Probable Cause Affidavit, an officer was dispatched around 2:43 p.m. on Sept. 28 in response to a suspicious circumstance call of an unknown woman standing with a baseball bat outside a vehicle with a smashed windshield, chasing a man.

The officer failed to find the vehicle or woman at the scene, but did then locate the vehicle, a White Nissan Murano, parked behind the North Judson police station.

Seth and Emma, both inside the vehicle, noted that their victim, a man that Emma knew because they had "grown up together", had smashed the windshield and beaten Seth with a cane. They also noted that the victim had previously suffered a Traumatic Brain Injury.

Seth had cuts on both hands, a small cut on his right elbow, and a swollen left wrist, later determined to be broken. However, he also had blood on his pants that the officer determined could not have come from his injuries.

Later, the officer received another call from dispatch that the victim had arrived at his brother's home bleeding from the head after having been beaten by Seth with a baseball bat.

When the officer arrived at this home, they found the victim outside with several bleeding scratch marks on the right side of his face, a laceration on his left elbow, swelling on the right side of his face, and a laceration he was bleeding from on the right top of his head. He was also suffering from memory loss, unable to remember what had happened to him.

The victim was transported to Northwest Starke Emergency, before being transferred to another hospital due to bruising, swelling, and bleeding on his brain.

On Sept. 29, a neighbor reported videos recorded on her Ring doorbell camera of Seth and Emma chasing down the victim and beating him with both a baseball bat and the victim's own cane.

Later, Seth was arrested and, after being read the warrant for his arrest, Seth stated "Good luck finding that bat".

Seth has had his pre-trial hearing, with one final hearing scheduled for Feb. 4, 2026, before a jury trial on Dec. 18, 2026.

Emma was arrested on a warrant on Wednesday, Dec. 3. Her next hearing is set for Jan. 9, 2026, with a trial date on Mar. 11, 2026.
