MISHAWAKA, Ind. --
A fire destroyed a Mishawaka home over the weekend.
It happened around 2:30 Sunday morning at a home in the 900 block of Carlton Street.
Dakota Ernsperger recently moved out of the home, but his parents and two teenage siblings still lived there.
“It was very devastating, it was really hard to see,” says Ernsperger.
His family was away camping over the weekend.
“My sister and brother are about to start school and my mom works. I know I have to help them out as much as I can. At least they weren’t there that’s what really matters,” says Ernsperger.
Fire officials are still working on a cause of the fire but believe it may have started on the porch.
“My parents would give the shirt of their back so really I just want them to be able to recuperated and be able to you know build back what they had at one time,” says Ernsperger.
The Red Cross is putting the family up in a hotel but Ernsperger is worried about the family moving forward. He has set up a GoFundMe account and is accepting donations in person at 819 Laurel Street in Mishawaka.
