SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The South Bend Fire Department reports crews responded to a garage fire Monday in the 600 block of Widener Lane.
Officials say the fire was under control in 20 minutes.
SBFD confirmed the fire caused a propane tank to explode inside the garage.
One vehicle was in the garage at the time and both the vehicle and garage were total losses.
NIPSCO was called to the scene due to a natural gas odor, which they resolved.
A section of the neighbor’s fence was partially damaged, while the owner’s home sustained minor heat damage to a window and window well.
Investigators are looking into the cause of the fire, but at this time it is undetermined.
