Five injured following two-vehicle crash in Elkhart

ELKHART, Ind. -- Deputies responded to a two-vehicle crash that injured a total of five people at the intersection of State Road 13 and County Road 40 at 6:48 p.m. on Saturday, according to the Elkhart County Sheriff's Office.

The first vehicle involved was a 2019 Nissan Sentra, driven by a 67-year-old woman from Elkhart, and contained four passengers. The other vehicle was a 2009 Pontiac G6, driven by a 16-year-old woman from Goshen, which contained two passengers.

The first car was traveling west on County Road 40 at the time of the accident and failed to yield to the right away traffic, entering the intersection in front of the Pontiac, causing the crash, according to deputies.

The driver of the Nissan Sentra reported complaints of back pain and was airlifted to Memorial Hospital for treatment. She was also cited for failure to yield to the right of way.

Two passengers inside the first vehicle were transported to Goshen Hospital for treatment of their injuries.

The driver of the Pontiac was treated and released by emergency medical services on-scene for complaints of pain in their left shoulder and stomach.

One passenger in the second vehicle was transported to Goshen Hospital for their injuries.
