Food bank asks for heartier foods

SOUTH BEND, Ind. — The cold weather is creating a new problem for an Indiana food bank.

The Food Bank of Northern Indiana said that because of the cold, people are having difficulties standing in the lines for help. So, the food bank is trying to make it easier to feed the hungry in the six Northern Indiana counties they serve.

"Many times you have to stand outside," said Marijo Martinez, director of Community Impact. "Sometimes they are not dressed appropriately for the colder temps, so it's a real struggle for people."

The food bank said that if people want to donate the food bank, they ask that you donate heartier foods.
